The History of the Mahoning Valley Republican Women’s Club
The Mahoning Valley Republican Women’s Club (MVRWC) began its journey in 1964, originally founded as the Canfield Republican Women’s Club. A small group of dedicated Republican women in Canfield, Ohio, came together with a shared vision: to promote conservative values, educate voters, and support Republican candidates at the local level.
Throughout the 1970s to 1990s, the club’s influence steadily expanded across Mahoning County. It became a trusted source of political and legislative information, encouraging Republican women to get involved in local campaigns, voter registration drives, and public discourse. As more women from outside Canfield joined, the club grew into a dynamic force for grassroots political involvement.
By the 2000s, MVRWC’s mission extended beyond elections. Members launched Caring for America service initiatives, championed literacy programs, and established an annual ROTC scholarship awarded to a female cadet at Youngstown State University. These efforts reflected a broader commitment to civic responsibility, leadership development, and uplifting the local community.
On October 2, 2019, the club officially changed its name to the Mahoning Valley Republican Women’s Club to better reflect its expanded membership and regional reach, which now includes Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana Counties.
Today, MVRWC remains a strong, active organization of Republican women committed to leadership, service, and advancing conservative values in the Mahoning Valley. From hosting candidate forums and supporting charitable efforts to mentoring future leaders and staying politically engaged, the club continues to shape its legacy—one voice, one vote, and one woman at a time.
